Saint Maria Goretti, pray for us!

This past weekend I went with friends from the Catholic Studies group through St. Thomas University to visit the Shrine of Saint Maria Goretti. Her shrine is located in Nettuno right next to the Mediterranean Sea.

A Passionist Father telling the story of the Italian-virgin Martry. Maria Goretti was educated by the Passionist religious order (an order who is very dear to me because I live on the fourth floor of their monastery in Rome). Also, it is important to note that Maria is one of the youngest canonized saints in the Roman Catholic Church. Thus, her courage and loyalty is even more inspiring. I believe her intercession is very strong and she is known for being the patron saint of chastity, rape victims, youth, teenage girls, poverty, purity and forgiveness.

Canonization: April 27, 1947, Pope Pius XII in St. Peter's Square, Roma

A beautiful image of Our Lady of Graces!

Oh Saint Maria Goretti who, strengthened by God's grace, did not hesitate even at the age of twelve to shed your blood and sacrifice life itself to defend your virginal purity, look graciously on the unhappy human race which has strayed far from the path of eternal salvation. Teach us all, and especially youth, with what courage and promptitude we should flee for the love of Jesus anything that could offend Him or stain our souls with sin. Obtain for us from our Lord victory in temptation, comfort in the sorrows of life, and the grace which we earnestly beg of thee (here insert your intention), and may we one day enjoy with thee the imperishable glory of Heaven. Amen.
